Italian Wines you should try!
Of course you know about the big Barolo’s and Nebbiolo’s to the North, the Super Tuscans’ and Chianti’s and certainly you’ve heard about the Brunello Di Montalcino’s, all fantastic wines, deep reds with hint’s of tobacco, blackberry, vanilla, etc. etc. etc. Some of those are quite expensive and may be a little cost prohibitive, especially in these times. But do you know of these other gems from Italy, the Primitivo and Aglianico from Puglia? How about the Nero D’Avola from Sicily? There is even a fantastic wine from Umbria that is a little hard to come by but is a great treasure to find called Sagrantino Di Montefalco. The Primitivo’s and Nero D’Avola’s can be quite inexpensive for such a great wine, costing anywhere from $5 dollars to $30 dollars. Don’t let the low price fool you. I have had some costing $5 dollars that have stood toe to toe against wines costing $65 dollars. I’m not kidding. As for uniqueness, the Aglianico and Sagrantino Di’ Montefalco have flavor for days. Both are fairly dry reds, they come with a punch of complexity that will knock your socks off. They pair excellently with cheeses, steaks chops, roasts and of course almost any pasta dish. I highly recommend these.
