San Ysidro Ranch
I won’t tell you about all the movie stars who have made this their retreat of choice since it’s opening as a hotel in the193o’s. People such as Hepburn, Lucille Ball, Bing Crosby, Groucho Marx, Winston Churchill, Sinclair Lewis, Vivien Leigh, Laurence Olivier and then of course me and my family. The San Ysidro Ranch got it’s start as a way station for Franciscan Monks in the late 1700′s, then became a working citrus ranch in the 1800′s. In 1825, Thomas Oliviera constructed the adobe ranch house which still stands as one of the most unique dining rooms on the west coast. Deemed a historical landmark, the “Old Adobe” precedes a ranch house that in 1892 became the Hacienda, the main focal point of the Ranch. Currently, this is one of the most relaxing places I have been to in a long time. Nestled in the hills of Montecito, a stones throw from Santa Barbara. The sea mist in the air, the clarity of the colors made it seem almost a magical place. If it weren’t for the two children in tow, I would also recommend it as one of the most romantic places I would ever take a loved one. Each suite, or in our case, Bungalow is complete with a private entry porch or courtyard, as well as a private outdoor jacuzzi, patio area with outdoor shower. The room itself was appointed with the finest of every category, including Aqua Di Parma bath soaps, lotions, powders and candles. Fireplaces in both bedroom and living room as well as plasma screen tv’s on the walls. This is one cozy spot. If you want to check out for a while, perhaps start that novel or even reacquaint or acquaint yourself with a loved one for that special celebration, this is the place. You will find yourself drawn to return as soon as possible. SAN YSIDRO RANCH
