Quinta Real Zacatecas
Built upon the 17th Century “San Pedro” Bullring, Mexico’s first bullring, is this luxury boutique hotel the Quinta Real in the colonial city of Zacatecas. The city Zacatecas lies 2500 ft. above sea level and is based around Silver mining. The word Zacatecas is the Nahuati name for the indigenous people who inhabited the area before the arrival of the Spanish. The region where the grass grew was originally called Zacatlan, and it’s inhabitants Zacatecas. You can still find silversmiths and artisans all around the quaint town, with an abundance of arts and crafts to be found. There is also a cable car that spans across the cities historic center. Another specialty of the region is the Mole’ sauce, a piquante chocolate sauce that was prevalent in most of the restaurants in this town. A great place to stroll, take photos in. Interesting night life as well, with a dance club located inside of an old Silver mine called “Mina de El Eden”. I would say that Zacatecas was decidedly upscale and the Mexican people there very well to do, almost wanting to keep this little gem of a town to themselves. As for the Quinta Real hotel, it was quite impressive, as you look out on your terrace you can imagine the crowd chanting “Ole” to the Matadors in the ancient bullring. The hotel also had a fantastic bar called “El Botarel” which is built where the bulls were kept before entering the ring. Nice place to visit.
